In a half-hour observing milkweed in field with two to three acres in sight, saw 3 to 5 adult monarch butterflies; first time this season seeing three at once, two flew directly in front of me within five feet. This is hopeful, but sad when thinking of the hundreds seen at once in spring only a few years ago.
