I mentioned in last sighting some ovipositing behavior - yes! On showy, narrowleaf, and tropical milkweed.
I put 30 eggs, which I think is an underestimate, but I have a little narrowleaf forest and am not going to try to search it.
Eggs were laid between 10 and 11 am. Female left shortly after.
Male remained all day, and I saw him fight presumably another male off three times in the evening after about 6 pm.
I wasn’t watching all day.
He was patrolling until after 8 pm, when nearly all of my yard is shaded. Very determined.
Note - you should change my observation of two monarchs yesterday to three to account for the male/s chased away in evening.
A friend near Liberty Park 2.5 miles south has the same thing happening at her yard - a male sticking around for days.
She is the one who released some females here a week ago.
She came by to collect eggs from my yard and took about 10 to raise.
