Milkweed Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/07/2022

Number: 1

I had checked the wildflower patch growing across from my home on the 4th only to be disappointed Just 2 large green seed pods that might make something out of the over 100 plants I can reach But life happened and I neglected to make a report during the blitz Then Sunday I did spot 1 Monarch from my deck! Must have been a male bc I never saw it on milkweed in the 2 hours I tried to keep watch Most of the suitable blooming plants this time of year are wild carrots and it did visit those But spent more time hanging out on tree leaves sunning
After carefully checking that area and the full 150’ down next to the path I’m still not finding any Monarch eggs or evidence of caterpillars Same with the huge pot of milkweeds on my deck But there is evidence of insect activity on those last hopeful seed pods The photo is representative of the many typical ravaged pods Most plants still have healthy leaves and no buds or blooms I holding hope for a stunning migration Recent successive heavy rains have perked the plants back up ready for them
I believe a patrolling male has found prime real estate and will keep watch for the females sure to follow
Sorry for the late entry
