I finished a volunteer shift at Monarch Waystation #299 [aka the Virginia Living Museum] and decided to visit the small Butterfly House after lunch today. There were 3 mated pairs of monarchs perched inside the House perched on the netting near the entrance and exit doors. As visitors entered and exited the pairs were disturbed, and the males took off and flew around the upper eaves with mates in tow until the pair could settle again on the vertical surfaces above the exit and entrance doors. I didn't do a diligent search of other monarchs inside the house, too many other butterflies eagerly nectaring.
