Crazy hummingbird activity today and throughout the past week. Just guessing on the number, but it seems to be a mix of adults and juveniles, all chasing each other and fighting for dominance at the feeders. Sitting outside near one of our feeders this morning, I was able to identify one adult male for sure who was being chased away from the feeder repeatedly by a female or juvenile. My daughter was able to see five separate birds at one time, and I’ve seen two feeding on the same little HummBlossom feeder at the same time …. briefly! I’d guess they were siblings. I’ve frequently seen three at a time performing interesting aerial maneuvers, and the humming, buzzing and chittering sounds are nearly constant. One bird hovered in our rose of Sharon about two feet away from my face. Lots of fun to watch all the activity!
