Between 10am & 2pm observed about 20 monarchs flitting from the north to S/SW through our property at about 10-15' above the ground. Some stopped to nectar mostly on our cut leaf coneflowers. I netted & tagged 2 pristine males, both with plump abdomens.
Also observed a pristine mated pair about 5' above the ground on a low branch on our magnolia tree. He took flight with her & settled in one of our blue spruce trees.
27°c, daytime high 29. Sunny with clouds arriving with cold front. Rain expected later today & the next 2 days. Light SE wind @3/10kmh.
