Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/22/2022

Number: 220

Saw roosts of 10,10,30,50 and 120. The roosts were established when I got there at 7:30. Most were on a couple of Buckthorn with some roosting about 18" above the ground. A lot of Monarchs were in the air right at sundown trying to decide where to land.

I took a quick walk on our grassland before looking for roosts and saw a fair number of Monarchs still there. Most were feeding on Meadow blazing star. Also blooming are Joe pye weed, Maximillian sunflower and Stiff goldenrod.
