Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/23/2022

Number: 440

Saw 11 roosts tonight on our prairie remnant with trees. The roosts ranged in size from 10 to 80. Some were high, some were low, some on dead branches but most on green trees. They were mainly in the understory tonight, had to look close to see them. Winds light SE and 70F.

Also did a very short walk on our grassland prior to looking for roosts and saw many Monarchs, mostly on Meadow blazing star. I believe these are recently emerged and will stay for a while to take advantage of the many blooms and great weather.
