Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 08/31/2022

Number: 12

In my front yard milkweed patch today, I was fascinated with how large the monarch caterpillars have grown. I'd say most are 5th instar now. Eating so much, plump, very long front filaments.

Two on the east side older plants - 4th instar.

Two on the north side winter plants - both 4th & 5th instar.

8-9 on the newest west side plants - all look like 5th instar. Lots of leaves have been eaten.
