Hummingbird Sighting (Adult Male)

Date: 09/01/2022

Number: 1

It appears that one of our 2 resident adult male rubies has left on his journey. He (Sparky) is our alpha male. I won't know for sure for a few more days as I continue to monitor feeding stations and perches around the yard. He hasn't been at his normal spot since Saturday evening, the 27th, so I'm thinking he left the next morning, the 28th. It is sad to see him go and we wish him safe and pleasant travels. Last year, he was also the first to depart, but hung around a bit longer, until September 6th. Perhaps, it's going to be an earlier migration this year?

Our other resident adult male (Sprite) is still here, along with at least 3 adult female mama hummers and all their babies. All the adults are much more mild mannered at this point and tend to hang out on branches near their individual chosen feeders, while the juveniles continue to chase and chatter with one another.

They all continue to feed from various gardens throughout the yard, as well as the feeders. I currently have 10 up and I change them out every other day.
