On August 31 I was aware of suddenly (as compared to previous days) there was a much greater than normal activity of hummingbirds visiting my flame acanthus and red yucca plants. There would be one or two at a time that I would see and often heard a fair bit of chirping sounds. OVER THE SUMMER I had what I consider to be resident gray-colored with some black & white markings hummingbird(s). Depending when I was out in the front yard, I would usually see one hummingbird at the flame acanthus & red yucca. A few times I saw two chasing one another away. As best I can tell, I think the over-summering hummingbirds I saw were female ruby throated hummingbirds due to their coloring and their small size.
