The first Monarch was sighted this afternoon as board members of the Llano Estacado chapter of Texas Master Naturalists gathered for a meeting. We were thrilled because Monarchs are a big focus of our chapter. Two more Monarchs were sighted by 7PM. All are cavorting around/through a pollinator garden. None had roosted as of this posting at 7:45. Mild temperatures; dry conditions after a week of rains on a dry, parched, not-butterfly-friendly landscape trying to survive a drought. The rains and Monarchs are welcomed to lift everyone's spirits. Hopefully, the first Monarchs of many to come.
