Monarch Waystation #271 reports seeing 2 monarch butterflies nectaring in the front bed from the early morning hours on and off. They did not stay long at any one flower, so it was hard to keep up with confirming which genders were present. My best guess is these are the parents of the larvae in the yard. The camera caught one monarch nectaring at a potted Golden Tropical Milkweed in the front bed, just as it hovered above a 4th [?] instar monarch larva in the shadow of its wings. The monarchs had to get the "hang" of nectaring from this particular milkweed! Also, a hummingbird interacted with the 2 monarchs as the three maneuvered to nectar on the large Mexican Sunflower [Tithonia] blooms in the front bed. The "dance" happened 9:40-9:42 am, too fast to snap a photo while I was distracted with other events in the garden.
