Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 09/02/2022

Number: 2

Past three days 70ml average nectar consumption per day, seems to be steadily decreasing since peaking around the 21st to 26th August. Changed feeder with again slightly sweeter mixture (3.2:1 water:sugar, 220ml nectar).

Observed at least two individual ruby-throated hummingbird apparent juveniles in morning, and within a few minutes of putting out fresh nectar, coming to feeder separately, no chasing observed. Both are thin but healthy looking. Long drinks and could almost see their approval as they first tasted then hovered cycling their tongue as if 'licking their lips' before continuing to gorge in flight, very little perching or hanging around otherwise. 79F, sunny, windy 10-15mph, gusts to 20.
