a single adult monarch crossed upper Water St. west to east between the city parking lot and the old and now unoccupied and deteriorating Lockwood mill building. the monarch flew at altitude only inches above street pavement to 6 feet high as it veered northerly around the mill building and continued across the old parking lot toward the Kennebec River at Ticonic Falls. interesting to see this butterfly moving eastward as so many of our recent sightings have been monarchs moving westward or southwestward as if migration already underway so early in the season
