My friend Eric Peterson gave me a report of monarchs roosting in his yard in Swanton, OH. Eric is a volunteer for The Nature Conservancy, and has created a small 1/2 acre prairie around his yard. He is surrounded by farm fields.
Eric reported:
9-6-22: "Well I just got done mowing the yard. I took a brief walk around to count like I always do in September. I counted 21. I'm happy with that."
"They were mostly on stiff goldenrods. Some on thoroughwort. My asters have just begun so I didn't notice any on those."
9-7-22 at 11:34 am: "I'm seeing fair amounts of Monarchs in Fremont, OH today. Most are close to the ground."
Later at 8pm: "Just counted. Got roughly 35 right now in my yard. I knew it would be a decent count."
