Hummingbird, Nectaring from Flowers
Sightings report image

Date: 09/07/2022

Number: 12

This is Maverick, one of our juvenile males. Our 3 yr old daughter and I name all of our hummingbirds (or at least most of them). Maverick has claimed our patio garden and 3 feeders and has worked very diligently since late July fending off all of our hummingbirds. I would say we have at least 12, but probably more. They are all still with us, including our 2 adult males, several adult females, and lots of juveniles. Here, Maverick is feeding from Dicliptera, which was a new addition to our gardens this year. He also loves red porter weed, cuphea, black and blue salvia, nasturtium, gertenmeister fuchsia, shrimp plant, lantana, hibiscus, and some others. He and the others are such a treat to share our yard with. When I am out on the patio, he hangs out with me and chirps. It may sound crazy, but they do seem to enjoy my company. I know I enjoy theirs!
