It's about 1/2 inch long. Sunny, light breeze, 84°, midday, on young showy milkweed plant. I saw an adult butterfly ovipositing on this plant 19 days ago. I'm in a very dry area desert area, and this patch is in my irrigated vegetable garden; there are a couple of acres of milkweed about half a mile away in a riparian area.
