Monarch Waystation #271 reports finding a total of 5 fifth instar monarch larvae resting or feeding on the Swamp milkweeds in the back bed just before 9 am this morning. These milkweeds have been smothered by aphids and the honeydew they have left behind has browned or blackened many leaves. These leaves wilt and shrivel in the heat, and since they are not an ideal food source, the larvae move around seeking the best leaves.
