Monarch Larva Sighted
Sightings report image

Monarch Waystation #271 reports finding an early 5th instar monarch larva resting at the base of a potted Golden Tropical Milkweed just past 9 am today as I watered the dry plants in the front yard. The caterpillar was just on the border of where the morning sunlight was hitting the pot's soil. The seashells you see in the photo are in the pots both for decor and to keep the soil shaded and moist. The larva stayed immobile, maybe trying to warm up for a climb up the stalks to get breakfast. I didn't find any other larvae up front, but did not do a diligent search.
