Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/12/2022

Number: 100

I tagged 15 Monarchs today on a big migration day! This past weekend's cool front put them on the move!

[Report moved from Monarch Adult Sighted to Monarch PEAK Migration; additional information contributed by observer and added by Journey North, 09/13/2022]:

I estimated that I had seen 10 Monarchs per hour during the 10 hours I was outside yesterday. My first few hours were spent on a nearby wildlife area (Benedictine Bottoms) where I observed numerous Monarchs feeding, sunning and migrating to the southwest. All of the Monarchs I observed yesterday we’re on a directional northeast to southwest flight path. Once I got home, I found our Monarch pollinator flower plot being heavily utilized by Monarchs. I ended up tagging numerous Monarchs yesterday and I’ve already tagged 12 more today. Our weather yesterday started out foggy / 50 degrees and ended up in the mid-80s and clear with a moderate southwest wind, which I think stalled the Monarchs in our area.
