Point Pelee National Park at the Tip- 6:15-8:10pm sunset 7:43.
20°c. Mostly sunny with SW wind @ 12/18kmh. Overnight low 15c.
Upon arrival at Tip gate observed about a dz monarchs flitting about & arriving from the north.
Driving down to Tip at Sparrow Field observed about 15 monarchs flitting above the road & another 15 or so roosted on bare branches cascading over the road.
6:25 Arrived at shuttle stop area. Numerous clusters already established...one of 60, others 25 & 30 & smaller. Sheltered area & roosted on Hackberry trees, Grapevine & Virginia creeper.
Continued south toward Tip.
Monarch clusters already established in interior on calm east side, on dead drying Grapevine & Hackberry trees. Clusters of 25, 50, 75 & smaller. A bit further south on east side shoreline about 300 monarchs clustered already established in Hackberry Tree about 25'-40'up & Virginia creeper about 10' up.
The east side monarchs surprised us with a burst from a gust of wind or possibly a bird (video)
As sunset drew near, clusters grew & totalled about 1150 east side & interior of Tip & 850 at shuttle stop area. A large dense roost had developed on large branch over shuttle roadway while I was further down Tip. Hard to count as it was 70' up & it was getting dark. Conservative count was about 250.
All appeared pristine.
