Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 09/13/2022

Number: 1

Changed feeder (190ml nectar, 3.33:1 water:sugar. Consumption average 14ml per day previous three days) and after noon, observed one RTHB (pictured) perch at feeder three times in an hour, one to two minutes of drinking and looking about each visit.

Last observed at 6:40pm, it perched and drank at feeder for four minutes straight, appears to be gaining weight, and appeared to be more relaxed around the feeder today than the past couple days.

Low to mid 70's F, NW wind, expecting lows tonight mid 40's.

(Sighting on the 13th could be the last of the season here. The familiar hum of a RTHB was heard near noon time on 14th September, but I did not see it, and no RTHBs were seen after that on the 14th. With the gentle northerly breeze ongoing and expected at least overnight into 15th September, perhaps the last juvenile decided to take advantage of the tailwind and good conditions and begin its journey south. The feeder will stay up in case of passers-by. Final observation of last season was on 20th September.)
