Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/11/2022

Number: 2

Mid-morning observed one RTHB perched and drinking at feeder for about a full minute. It appeared healthy but cold, and vigilant, looking around cautiously. Then four visits between 1355-1430. Best guess is this is a juvenile female.

A passerby visited briefly late afternoon (and chased away the smaller one that's been here all day), drank several times in-flight. I could see the large size, yellow sides, and a VERY streaked gorget, almost half black. He flew all around hovering and inspected feeder from several positions for about one minute, then perched above on the electric line and screamed and wiggled its tail for about a minute, and then was gone. The little one resumed feeder visits after about an hour later, last observed at 1945 near sunset.

Cool, breezy, cloudy day with occasional rain, mid-60's F high temperature.
