Monarch PEAK Migration
Sightings report image

Date: 09/15/2022

Number: 1000

Monarchs continue to fly by all day long by the hundreds per hour.

[Additional information contributed by observer, added by Journey North, 09/20/2022]:

Located on Lake Michigan, or more precisely, on a bluff, 90 ft up from the water. We have planted wildflowers, sunflowers, and milkweed on the bluff, and they occasionally stop for nectar, but mostly are flying by, almost always going south. Last week, for several days, we would could around 100 per hour. Now they are more dispersed, and we’ll spot about 5-6 an hour. We’d see them early in the morning, but also in the evening, during the peak times. They will fly over the water, and bluff mostly. Maybe up to 200 ft high, but sometimes just a few feet off the ground.
