[Additional information contributed by observer, added by Journey North, 09/21/2022]:
We were thrilled to see so many butterflies!
Actual count. Count to 50 then start over. Butterflies passing thru the clay tennis courts as we played for an hour, 9-10AM. Most flying individually but had groups of 3-5 flying together.
Directional flight from coastline ENE heading WSW (running down coast?)
Approx 4' -16' off ground (some seemed to fly lower than previous years) Several had to quickly change altitude to fly over the tennis court fence. (Had to stop play a few times to let them pass by.)
No nectaring, they were always on the move.
Did not take photos this year.
For years we have been keeping a log of the butterfly migration thru the tennis courts.
