Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 09/18/2022

Number: 250

While watching the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, I received a message that Monarchs had been roosting at a location in Kingsville since Friday. As my new friend put it, how fitting that she should observe a cluster of Monarchs on the day that we were honouring the passing of our Monarch. This picture was taken early Monday morning so we can assume that they were roosting in this location Sunday night. Roost location was on a bluff above Lake Erie with an eastern exposure along a hedge row bordering a stream that empties into Lake Erie. Approximate overnight low at this location based on reporting data from nearest station at Harrow would have been 20°C. Counting done by estimation based on how many Monarchs she saw in a given area multiplied by the area occupied by the entire Monarch roost.
