We went early in the morning, 8:15, before the sun hit the meadow and saw 3 monarchs resting in short grass. This surprised me. A quick walk through Russian Olives and no monarchs were spotted. When the sun hit the meadow about 9:15 they started to flutter and nectar. We spotted 10 more. We covered very little ground and tried to count each monarch only once. We tagged 2 in 45 minutes and one escaped the net.
