Sightings report image

Date: 09/22/2022

Number: 25

Increasingly more monarchs passing through the backyard.
So far as of September 22, 2022

9/19 total 7 in the morning (tagged 2)(up from the 3 or 4 for the past 2-3 weeks)

9/21 total 13 tagged 8

9/22 total 26 tagged 16. Today was sunny then 11 am sprinkle then sunny again. High of 77 slight breeze. Monarchs preferring to nectar on tithonia, and lantana today, not as much on the tropical milkweed. The monarchs must be moving through. The ones we tagged in the morning today weren't the ones on the flowers this afternoon.

The tagging disrupts their feeding so we will probably suspend tagging for the most part. There is still a territorial male trying to chase off incoming, but the migrating monarchs are intent on feeding. There was a beaten up old male in the yard this morning as well. Of the tagged monarchs today, 14 males and 2 females. (Total for the 3 days 23 males, 3 females)
