Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 09/25/2022

Number: 5

Hey, where are you going? South is the other way! Fuzzy critter is a hummer leaving the feeder jetting off to north. We were down to 3 ruby-throated hummers on Saturday, 9/24, but it appears 2 more late arrivals today boosted our count to 5. All seem to be females or could be 1 or 2 juveniles. It's always a nice surprise when more RTHBs show up this late in the migration. A couple females have really put on weight. All 5 look in good shape and are nectaring at feeders and flowers like crazy. High temperature is in mid-60s with partly sunny skies but strong wind out of the south today. This might account for the 2 new arrivals stopping here today. Quitting time for feeding this evening occurred around 7:15 CDT. If wind changes I expect to see fewer of the little zippers tomorrow.
