Had a count of about 2600
til around 6pm when many witnessed a sudden arrival of monarchs over treetops. They flew to & joined established clusters doubling the earlier count.
Monarchs roosted in Hackberry, basswood trees & Virginia creeper from 5' up to 50' high, all in sheltered areas. South of Sparrow Field they were on east sides of trees.
Shuttle stop they were on south sides of trees & on east beach they roosted on east side of trees.
Observed 1 monarch with almost completely torn off wing. All others appeared pristine.

Depending on if wind direction tomorrow 9/28, changes early enough from NW/NNW to North & if more sun than cloud the monarchs may leave. High temp of 14c real feel 8°c.
Perfect conditions on the Thursday 9/29, light wind, northeasterly, sunny & warmer at 15c real feel of 11. All will leave.

Both Goldenrod & Woodland Sunflowers are mostly senesced. Asters are now in full bloom & in previous years when monarchs are later in the fall migration they nectar on the asters.
