Sightings report image

Date: 09/15/2022

Number: 2

Evening near 6pm, observed one RTHB perched at feeder for twelve minutes, mostly looking about, but took a handful of drinks from an awkward angle and only inserted the tip of its beak into portal. Flew toward SW, maple tree. Looks the same but not certain if it's the same juvenile from two days ago, or a passers-by; appears it could still put on more weight. Before 7pm, 65F, heard a 'thump', looked toward feeder and observed two RTHBs, one chasing the other, then it perched on electric line above before coming down to drink, only partly inserting beak into feeder port.

Last images of a RTHB this season here - Pictured is the dominant individual; Odd behavior suggests this is a passer-by.

Yesterday, 14th Sept, Heard familiar buzz of a RTHB outside window near noon, but did not observe one the rest of the day after that. Gentle northerly breeze ongoing and expected at least overnight, good tailwind for the journey south. The feeder will stay up in case of passers-by.
