Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/03/2022

Number: 7

We have a mixture of the last few of our resident juveniles, as well as travelers. We seem to get new travelers each day. It's honestly hard to tell how long the travelers are staying. It is unseasonably cold here for this time of year. We're down well into the 40s at night and we're supposed to drop into the upper 30s at the end of the week for a couple of nights. I am maintaining 10 feeders, as I'm still seeing hummingbirds on each of them all throughout the day. We also have an assortment of annuals and perennials for them to feed from, although some of them are definitely fading. The cuphea (vermillionaire) is such a winner. I plant it all over in the spring and it just thrives and the hummingbirds adore it. The butterfly bushes are also sure end of season reliables. I pray it warms up some and that we don't have our first frost any time soon. I also pray every day for these super special birds. As others have reported, they definitely do bond with humans once you earn their trust and spend some time with them. We name ours and love to get to know the ones who become comfortable with us and choose to hang out with us. God speed, sweet jewels of the sky!
