This little Ruby Throated juvenile male showed up on October 2, as the remnants of Hurricane Ian arrived, and stayed throughout the storm. After visiting all 11 feeders in the yard on his first day, he chose the one above the salvia coccinea as his favorite. Sometimes he feeds from the flowers, sometimes from the feeder. After feeding, he always flies to either a nearby cherry tree or very large Spruce.
Another hummer showed up yesterday and stayed all day. I saw it fly from our garden, where we have many flowers still blooming (Cardinal Climbers, agastache, Texas Sage) to an oak tree. This morning it fed from a nearby feeder, then departed heading east. I have not seen it since. I did not have a good enough sighting opportunity to identify the sex.
