I was picking raspberries in the garden this afternoon when I saw this female monarch right in front of me. She flew away but erratically and landed nearby on the ground. I picked her up and saw the problem: one antenna stuck to the front of a wing. My wife thought that it was syrup from a hummingbird feeder and suggested to remove it with wet cotton. It worked, and the monarch flew up high and roosted in a nearby tree. Hopefully she'll be on her way to Mexico tomorrow. I read that monarchs use their antennae for navigation so I can understand how this one was disoriented.
