This beauty was seen in my front yard butterfly bush today at 1:30 p.m. Temps in mid-80s. Three days ago I reported two other individuals at the same bush. But those had wing damage, and this female has only minor wear on her lower right wing. I am happy so many are visiting our neighborhood. But I am very unhappy that this female was attacked by a praying mantis while I watched. The attack was too high in the bush for me to reach. I ran inside the house to get my husband and when I returned the mantis was still there, but no butterfly. Since such a short amount of time passed, I feel confident that the monarch escaped and am hoping she survives. Whenever I see a praying mantis on this bush, I relocate them, but this one escaped me. I will continue to be diligent.
