Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/09/2022

Number: 1

We are down to our last "resident" female juvenile, named Willow. From the time she fledged in late May, she has always preferred the flowers over the feeders. We have a fair amount of flowers holding on, despite the chilly nights we've been having. Our feeders are being swapped out every 3 days. We've been having a lot of travelers come through. Today, however, I didn't spot any.

Willow is one of our favorites and enjoys interacting with us. She'll feed right by me when I'm out in the garden with her and she squeaks at me constantly. She seems to be strong and healthy and ready for her first migration any day now. We pray that God nudges her along soon so that she can get to her winter destination safely while there is still ample food along her route, as well as fair weather. It always stresses me when one holds out like this.

We will miss her dearly this winter and look forward to her return in April, when she'll be all ready to be a mama and have babies of her own. God speed, little Willow!
