Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/12/2022

Number: 1

Observed one Monarch butterfly in backyard. Butterfly was mostly sitting still on low vegetation for a few minutes with wings extended, facing sunward. It then flew away. Assumed the insect was thermoregulating, attempting to absorb solar energy, on this partly sunny day of 62 degrees F. Nice to see the late migrant despite observing lower than normal numbers of migrating adults this fall.
