[Journey North Data Verifier Note: contacted observer for more information about this observation; additional information contributed 10/27/22]:

I have a small yard in Wauwatosa WI. I have been planting many native plants for past 3-4 years with some annuals. I have planted several kinds of milkweed and a number of butterfly host plants. I had been getting increasing Monarch’s, Swallowtails, Questionmarks, Red Admirals, Painted Lady and Hummingbird Moths. In years past I would see occasional hummingbirds. This year I saw a decreased number of butterflies but constant hummingbirds. They were all around my house 4-5 times daily or more. I often saw 3-5 together at a time. They were frequently nectaring at the Black and Blue Salvia. There are also lots of bugs in my yard and I saw hummingbirds on sunflowers, Joe Pye Weed and other natives possibly eating bugs. They seemed to spend a lot of time in the Privet bushes, pine tree and large Honeylocust tree. I don’t have any hummingbird or bird feeders. I believe all the hummers I saw were Ruby Throated. I could usually identify males but less so the difference between females and juveniles. Most of my observations were of nectaring on Black and Blue Salvia as it is in front of my windows. My last siting was a surprise as it was cold that morning and several days before.
