Monarch Fall Roost
Sightings report image

Date: 10/12/2022

Number: 5000

This is a conservative estimate. On my 2 mile hike, there were numerous Monarch Butterflies roosting in the trees, while others were flying above. The pictures below show some of the roosting butterflies on branches. I observed this all throughout my hike, on certain trees. At times, as I could walk by, they would all fly up and it looked like a cloud above. There thousands throughout the hike, likely well more than 5K. They were mainly on Pecan, Hackberry, and American Elm trees. I have some other pictures and a video, but apparently I am only allowed to attach one picture.
