Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 10/13/2022

Number: 1

This Ruby Throated Hummingbird showed up at our feeders this morning. I believe it’s a juvenile male. The attached photo is poor quality. I took it through a window for documentation only. The weather is miserable, he’s wet and probably cold and tired. I didn’t want to spook him trying to get a better picture.
The temperature has been in the low 60's all morning. It’s raining, and SW winds have been averaging 4 mph with frequent 8-12 mph gusts. As of 2:00 PM, he’s still here visiting the feeders and hanging out in the trees.
I have eleven hummingbird feeders out, all clean and fresh as of yesterday. He’s been spending his time here trying most of them. He also visited the garden, landing briefly on the Cardinal Climber vine, but there are very few blooms left on it after recent frosts. There are other flowers in the yard still blooming, some right underneath the feeders, that were hummingbird magnets over the summer, but he’s not showing any interest. Other recent migrating hummingbirds displayed the same behavior. They favored the feeders and ignored the flowers.
