Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 10/10/2022

Number: 2

Had a female visit around 11:45 am and she flew in and out of the backyard for about an hour. Temp was 85 degrees. She laid eggs on my two potted tropical milkweed plants and also nectared on the flowers. This is the first time in 3 years that a monarch has laid eggs in my yard in the fall. A second monarch was also spotted the same day around the same time as they chased eachother, so I am not sure if they took turns laying eggs or only one did. I cut the tropical milkweed plants back to around 4-5 inches above the soil line each fall and strip any leaves to avoid passing on any diseases next season.
