I observed a monarch butterfly flying in a southwesterly direction at about 3:30 pm central standard time today. The duration of the sighting was brief, less than 20 seconds, and I was not able to determine the sex of the butterfly. There is a patch of goldenrod and half of a melon that had been set out for butterflies where I was located, but the monarch flew right past those food sources. I did not see any other monarchs with this one. This was at SBF Construction and Paving in Temple, Texas.
