Last week, November 7-11, I saw several monarchs (10-15) over the course of the week nectaring and laying eggs, mostly on tropical milkweed. I found caterpillars (3 on native milkweed: swamp, whirled, and tuberlosa), but found many cats (15-20) and eggs (20-30) on the tropical milkweed (which is pruned regularly). I currently have about 20 cats/chrysalises pupating for release in about 10 -20 days. There have been a few earlier deaths - I found 2 dead during pupating and have had 5 bad chrysalises (destroyed) from caterpillars found 3 to 4 weeks ago. I’m hoping this latest batch will fair better.
