This was my first sighting of a monarch since late May. He was a very healthy bright-winged male, who flew fast around the pastures. He paused briefly at times ~ resting near or nectaring from flowering milkweed. A couple of hours later, I again saw him flying fast all over the place -- unfortunately never got a photo. Lovely to see such a healthy monarch!
The milkweed (Asclepias viridis) is abundant and in all stages: some flowering, some producing seed pods, some newly sprouting.
