Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 12/05/2022

Number: 1

Raphy, our juvenile male rufous, seems quite content and continues to feed from 2 feeders, one in the front yard and one in the back. There is tremendous activity with all of our other birds and Raphy appears to enjoy observing. Temps have been cold at night, but quite mild during the daytime. The next 10 days or so are forecasted to be mild at night as well.

Thanks to all who have reached out with tips and suggestions regarding hosting a winter hummingbird. We really appreciate the advice and encouragement. It's definitely a new experience, but one that we are enjoying. It's a bit stressful, but it sounds like rufous hummingbirds are quite capable of enduring winter here. Tomorrow, Josephine and I go to search for a patio Christmas evergreen for him which we'll adorn with lights in an attempt to provide a warm shelter for him if he so desires. :)
