Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 12/09/2022

Number: 1

Protein nectar type 1: Mixed 10ml Abbot Promote (fiber Free, #62701)with 125ml 1:4 sugar water and 1/16 tsp Bee Pollen for scent. Mixed, filtered through Paper napkin.

Untouched so far.

Busy flying and back and forth on a single axis (mastered the move to avoid trusses) and resting on an exact same spot (hence a good photo).

I had never seen a Hummingbird (we get only Ruby throated) venture inside 12inch tall Salvia bushes at dusk trying to get a couple of flowers. Columbus visits plants heavily at daybreak and at dusk. Probably because there are no known predators (last year I have seen Praying Mantis, Shrew/Mole, Vole) All day hunting insects, stopping at the feeder/Buddleia Orange Sceptre only for a few seconds now and then.
