Photo of a portion of the dedicated organic pollinators’ gardens around our farmhouse, Piedmont of N. C. There are native, perineal plantings we’ve maintained and gradually added to over 5-10 yrs., & keep adding more. This area includes Common Milkweed, Lantana, Asters, Sedum, Coneflowers, Black-eyed Susans, Shasta Daisies, Night-blooming lilies, Day Lilies, mint, a growing variety of herbs and vegetables, Coral-bells, Lotus, Calla Lilies, Sunflowers, Phlox…. and more. My first gardening experience for pollinators and wildlife began in containers on patios and porches, adding raised beds few years later and now focusing on the in-ground gardens, which seems like a lot, yet the more you do, the more the gardens take care of themselves, as a balance develops. This year I’ve started working on dedicated meadow areas of mixed plants, inspired by natures’ work already present, with Passion Flower vines, Common Milkweed, Butterfly Weed, Asters, Daisies, Goldenrod and there will be more!
