Hummingbird, Other Species Sighted

Date: 01/09/2023

Number: 1

Raphy, our juvenile male Rufous/Allen's hummingbird, continues to delight us with his presence here in Kernersville, NC. He appears to be doing well and visits the feeders throughout the day. He is first sighted right before 7am and retires for the night just after 5pm. Temps are at or just below freezing most nights, but up into the 50s most days, so I would imagine he is able to successfully hunt for insects for protein during the day. He looks healthy. We have some pots of blooming Gartenmeister fuchsia that we pull out from the garage once temps warm up in the morning and he seems to enjoy nectaring from them. His adult plumage continues to come in nicely. He has been a special blessing to us and we've grown very fond of him.
