Hummingbird (OTHER Observations)

Date: 01/26/2023

Number: 1

Raphy, our juvenile male Rufous/Allen's hummingbird, is still with us here in Kernersville, NC. He has been here for 3 months now. While we've had some pretty extreme cold snaps, we've also had plenty of mild temps as well, which is reassuring knowing that he has had lots of good insect hunting days. We keep 3 feeders up as well, two of which can be heated when the temps drop. He prefers one feeder in particular and visits it throughout the day, from just before 7am, with his last, long feeder just after 5pm. His adult coloring is coming in gradually. His gorget is about halfway there. He appears to be very healthy. It is starting to look just a tiny bit like Spring here, but the extended forecast is calling for some snow/wintry mix at the end of next week, so we're not there yet.
